13-year-old girl left with horrific burns on her neck after using her cellphone while it was charging

I think any parent out there would agree with the sentiment that protecting our children becomes priority number one, two, three, four, and five from the moment they come into the world.

The thought of our children suffering from illness or injury is often unimaginable, which is why we take extensive measures to protect them from harm. This concern is not something most of us consciously dwell on; rather, it is an instinct that arises the moment we first behold our child.

Regrettably, the world frequently presents unforeseen challenges, and despite our best efforts to exercise thorough caution, mishaps can and will occur.

Many parents dread the moment when an event arises that is beyond their ability to prevent, especially when it involves an accident or situation that was entirely unpredictable.

Jackie Fedro is familiar with this reality. Although her daughter’s distressing experience occurred in 2016, it remains a story worth sharing today.

As reported by BuzzFeed, Jackie made the decision in 2016 to allow her daughter Gabbie, who was then 13, to have her own cellphone. For Christmas, Gabbie received an LG d500.

“One of the reasons we ultimately decided to purchase her a cell phone was to maintain better communication with her due to her hectic practice schedule,” Jackie shared with BuzzFeed.

However, what transpired next was a nightmare that none of them could have anticipated. One day, while Gabbie was in her room using her cellphone, Jackie heard her scream.

“She came rushing downstairs after it occurred, clutching her neck,” Jackie recounted. “She was in excruciating pain, screaming uncontrollably.”

“As a mother, it is the most distressing experience to witness your child in agony and feel powerless to assist her. It took her a significant five minutes before she could even explain what had happened.”

Gabbie informed her mother that she had been using her phone while it was connected to the charger. The 13-year-old experienced an electric shock, with the current traveling up the charging cable, through her phone, and into her metal necklace, resulting in burns to her neck.

Jackie shared with BuzzFeed: “She endured severe second-degree burns and will now have a scar encircling her neck.”

In light of this alarming incident, Jackie urged other parents to be aware of the potential dangers associated with cellphones that are not commonly discussed or recognized.

“With so many children using phones these days, it is crucial for parents to be alerted to the risks they may pose,” Jackie emphasized.

How terrifying! Have you ever heard about something like this happening before? I certainly hadn’t.
