EARLIER:

Authorities are investigating a deadly crash in Ringgold Friday afternoon, according to Catoosa County officials.

The crash happened a little after 3 p.m. on Highway 151 (Alabama Highway) near Beaver Creek Lane.

Chasity Sexton said the accident happened right in front of her house.

“I was just sitting on the porch and it just sounded like a bomb went off,” Sexton said.

According to the Georgia State Highway Patrol preliminary findings, the driver of a 2015 red Mazda sport was traveling south on GA 151.

Meanwhile, the driver of a black 2012 Infiniti QX56 was traveling north.

Both cars came to a curve when the driver of the Mazda traveled off the right-side of the roadway and overcorrected to the left.

Their findings show the car crossed the center line hitting the Infiniti on the driver side head light.

“It was pretty intense,” Sexton said. “The cars were absolutely smashed.”

The driver of the Mazda died at the scene and their passenger was life flighted to Erlanger Medical Center.

The driver of the Infiniti and two of its passengers were also transported to Erlanger.

All of this comes just a week before Christmas Eve.

“Having somebody pass away in a car wreck right before Christmas hits right at home,” Sexton said. “Nobody really expects that.”

The Georgia State Patrol is on the scene investigating the crash.

We’re working to learn more information. Check back later for updates.
